Sunjin Haru Kim, our designer of "I AM A HUMAN.", has selected 100% proceeds of this shirt to benefit Stop AAPI Hate, a nonprofit social organization that runs a reporting center which tracks incidents of discrimination, hate and xenophobia against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
As a Korean-American, personal friend of Chef Melissa, and talented creator in the Bay Area, Sunjin felt inspired to promote empathy and compassion through her design. The "I am a man: Memphis sanitation strike 1968" touched Sunjin deeply. Her design pays homage to and elaborates on the sentiment latent within the slogan. She integrates a subtle "人" element — a common Chinese, Japanese, and Korean character that singularly represents "people" or "human".
